Johnny Cash was obviously one of the major players involved in the advent of rock and roll but before watching Walk the Line, I had no idea how influential he actually was. Elvis has always been seen as the King of Rock and Roll, but I think that Cash definitely deserves more credit than he is given. The movie made it seem as if Elvis wasn't really the first person to introduce rock and roll to the American public and that Cash was extremely important to the emergence of rock and roll. Also, Cash used music as an escape and his songs were much more genuine and heartfelt than Elvis' songs, some of which were stolen from other musicians. Cash's lyrics were filled with his struggles and were very indicative of his sorrowful life, which is a major reason why people were attracted to him. However, the movie made Cash seem kind of like a womanizer because he cheated on his wife with several different women. Overall, Walk the Line was a fantastic movie and I think Joaquin Phoenix played Johnny Cash extremely well.
