Brian Wilson and Pet Sounds

Considered one of the greatest rock albums ever created, The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds was the brain child of mainly Brian Wilson, the lead singer of the band. Hoping to replicate the ideas of the Beatles' Rubber Soul, Wilson arguably surpassed them with such hits as God Only Knows and Wouldn't it Be Nice. Ironically, considered by Rolling Stones magazine as the greatest rock album, Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles is said by Paul McCartney as to be considerably influenced by Pet Sounds. George Martin, the Beatles' legendary producer said "Without Pet Sounds, Sgt. Pepper wouldn't have happened...Pepper was an attempt to equal Pet Sounds."

At a time where pop rock ruled the charts, Pet Sounds can be seen as the epitome of its reign. The sound produced by Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys evolved the idea of an album as a singular concept rather than a collection of singles. While Wilson may have a sketchy history of "borrowing" music from other artists, this album in particular is a product unique in itself.
