music is life
I thought our guest lecturer was a pretty interesting guy. It's clear he was passionate about what he was doing. He knows who he is - a concept that seems so simplistic and mundane but is probably one of the rarest qualities in our society today. I understand his reasonings for saying music is a time capsule. I mean, of course it is. We all remember that song that came on the radio when we were kids and we fell in love at first listen - its natural. But i felt that he left an important part about music - what it does for us in real life. Yes we all have our different styles that we relate to best but we sometimes forget that we're all still very young. Lately i've noticed that songs that i loved at 15 and 16 are now becoming more prevalent to my life. As we learn and grow in our lifetimes, we experience new things and new people, fall in love and break up, start wars and save lives. We'll always be experiencing new things. No matter what though, there will be a song for that new emotion we're not sure how to deal with. It may not come anytime soon. It may come tomorrow. My point is that music grows with us, and THEN is placed in that time capsule after we've moved on. We remember certain songs because they remind us of certain emotions we're not used to, whether it be extreme happiness or depression. My philosophy: music is life. It is everything. Everyone i encounter is another song in my playlist. No matter where i go or how old i get, it will always be at my side reminding me of the good and the bad. it's gotten me out of the stickiest situations, and has always been there when i was in need. it is my true best friend.
