Street Cred.

So while I was doing this and that in my flat today I was listening to my iPod. A song by Dizzee Rascal featuring Lily Allen came on. It's called "Wannabe" not to bed confused with the Spice Girls song of the same name. Essentially in this song, Lily Allen is "calling out" Dizzee Rascal. In the song, Allen sings, "So you wannabe' a gangsta' tell me just one thing, whatchya know about being a hard man, you're mum buys your bling! You're pockets getting bigger but you couldn't pull the trigger if you need to, 'cause you haven't it, so you might as well quit!" Until our discussion on hip hop I never paid any attention to those lyrics, aside from the mum buying the bling part (It's funny!!) but after the discussion, this song really just shows even the grime/rap's attitude towards establishing some sort of street credibility. Dizzee Rascal may have all the markers of a "gangster" but in actuality isn't even close according to this song! I still love him though :D lol
