I just found a really interesting article on aol.com. The topic of the article was the greatest cover version made. Of course, Elvis was listed in the top 5 for his cover of hound dog. The cover that I found the most interesting was Aretha Franklin's cover of RESPECT. Apparently it was written and sung 2 years prior by Otis Redding. According to the article, RESPECT was orgininally penned for the purpose of a man requesting "some stress relief of the amorous sort after a hard day's work." I thought that thus was very interesting because the song came to symbolize female power and strength. In a way I kinda wish that I didn't know the original purpose because it suggests that even when women are trying to be empowered and united, it is through something based in men.
