Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey
Over the spring break, my roommate went to Fort Lauderdale in Florida. He went to an Eric Clapton concert down there and Roger Daltrey opened for Clapton. He said Daltrey put on an outstanding show and had great showmanship. He had said, before he started playing, "I haven't had an opening slot since 1964." I wonder how it is from always being the headliner to have to cut your show down to 50 minutes. It must take awhile to figure out what you want to play to showcase yourself for 50 minutes. When we learned about The Who in class, we learned that 1964 was the year the Roger Daltry changed his band name to The Who. He must have only played a couple gigs before they were recognized as a headliner. This also shows that Daltrey will do almost anything to be up on stage and just playing. My roommate said that Eric Clapton played the best version of "I Shot The Sheriff" that he has ever heard before. Here is the link to the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dB5XOjN0e-M. I continued to ask if he said much between his songs and he said he sort of just said thank you a couple times and just played, just like we talked about in class. Eric Clapton has said many times that he is going to stop touring, but he still continues to do it. He modifies his sets to include an unplugged section, so that he can sit down and relax for awhile. It must be tough to stand that long when you get older.
