So I Guess John Mayer is a Racist -_-

I just read an article claiming that John Mayer is a racist because he said the N word in an interview. In an interview with Playboy John Mayer said:

"What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?' And by the way, it's sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a n**** pass. Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a hood pass if you really have a hood pass? But I said, 'I can't really have a hood pass' I've never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, 'We're full.'

So once the interview hit stands John Mayer apologized for his comments through the use of twitter. Essentially he stated that he was very sorry for the use of the word and he did not mean to use it in a derogatory manner.

Eventhough I don't know John Mayer (and I actually dont listen to his music often) I do not think that the above statement justifies him being called a racist. If you actually examine the context that the word is in it is meant to display the closeness and tight knit African American community. His usage of the word actually seems like it had a similar connotation as the term "race records" had.

I actually read alot of things about John Mayer and one thing that kept being brought up is that he has problems actually thinking before he speaks because he tends to say stupid things. I mean its not like he flipped out like the guy from Seinfeld (Michael Richards b.k.a. Krammer). I truly think people are just looking for reasons to get angry.
