Race Records contd

Even though race and hillbilly music were separated and distinct due to its own specific style, the two still had major similarities such as having the same origin and also came from long-standing folk music traditions. I realized how much race and hillbilly music have contributed to the different types of music from the 20's and 30's and all the way up to today. Without race and hillbilly music, rhythm and blues, and country western would not have been formed. Race music brought forth the classic blues that shaped the taste of white Americans during the 1920's and 30s.

I remember that someone in the class mentioned that the present style of country music has changed since the past. In the past it was very conservative, traditional and now country singers like Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift aren't really considered as real country artists. Their form of genre consists more of a country pop. I agree with that observation but there is really nothing wrong with this new alternative form. It's true that they should label it as another genre, but what's wrong with mixing a bit of this and that to produce something that's more modern. Just like style and fashion, music changes with time.
