The Superbowl

While watching The Who perform during the halftime show, my 13 year old cousin started a heated debate when she said, "aren't they playing the song from CSI?" My whole family loves the Who and were completely devastated to hear that. Then, someone said that The Who are "a bunch of washed up musicians" and shouldn't have played at the Superbowl. I realized that this is how our generations sees classic rock. We have been thrown into a world dominated by pop music and Miley Cyrus so it shouldn't have surprised me to hear that statement. The only real exposure to classic rock that the younger generation gets is strictly from TV shows and Rock Band. The appreciation for classic rock is quickly fading, mostly because the younger generation can't connect to older music, and the older generation doesn't understand the fascination with the music being produced today. Granted, The Who's performance wasn't the greatest in halftime show history, they're all 60 years old and deserve some credit. I truly believe that they remain one of the greatest bands of all time, and to say that they're "a bunch of washed up musicians" shows exactly how our generation sees older music.
