Today's discussion on Hip Hop

I feel like its the marketers' or producers' fault for portraying this negative image and stereotypes of R&B rappers or artists. However, it can be argued from another perspective because why are the artists allowing themselves to be portrayed as someone who is into violence, guns, bling, multiple women? They could voice their own opinions and refuse to be shown like that unless, that is what they want. Therefore, I don't really know if rap reinforces stereotypes. I think it depends on the artists and their attitudes. Some artists prefer to keep it real and depict realistic urban life in African American communities, however some just prefer to show masculinity, fame, fortune in their music.

Maybe part of hip hop has contributed to the rate of crime and violence. It is just like why television has censorship, to avoid children from copying and being exposed to certain things. Well, if a popular music video is promoting violence and has guns and other stuff, then especially young adults, would believe it is okay to follow.
