Presentation today

I really liked listening to the guest lecture today about hip hop and I think it was really interesting to a bunch of rock fans in the room (or at least I'm assuming considering not a lot of people raised their hands about knowing hip hop bands he named off). I thought it was kind of embarrassing that I didn't know more of the artists that he was talking about, but I have to admit, I like a couple BIG and tupac songs and that about does it for me.
I think it's a shame that artists like him don't go big because they aren't the typical slice people are interested in. People would rather listen to parental advisory albums like Eminem and 50 cent, or at least that's what it was a few years ago when I listened to more hip hop and rap haha. If people actually listened to music like this maybe they wouldn't have such a negative image in their head when talking about black people (I'm talking about white people) because people always use stereotypes saying that black people are so violent and ignorant. I think it's a shame that people generalize like this because if you take a couple of popular hip hop videos, yes, there are probably going to be guns and violence. Are all of them like this? No. Are all black people like this? No.
I also loved his video he showed at the beginning of the class. I've been to a couple of presentations at UB that featured him including the hip hop and sexuality which I wrote about at the beginning of the semester but I had never actually listened to his music or seen his artwork.
