Hip hop
I agree with a previous post that stated that it is marketers' and producers' fault for the way rap and hip hop are presented today, but the artists can also be blamed. The artists could stop producing songs and music videos that heavily rely on violence and drugs. However, some artists (in all genres, not just hip hop), are too consumed with the ideas of money and fame and don't make the music that they actually want to make. Edreys is a perfect example of how an artist can forfeit money and fame simply to make the music that he or she actually wants to make and is meaningful to them. Edreys has created and continues to create music with powerful messages that mean something to him, and he is not selling out by creating an image that many hip hop artists do. I understand that a lot of hip hop artists rap about drugs and violence because that's what they experience, but I think that some artists create an image and make music about violence and drugs without ever having any experiences with them. Maybe if more artists did what Edreys does, hip hop wouldn't have such a negative connotation to some people.
