hip hop

I have to admit that I don't listen to hip hop. When I was younger, I used to circa 2003 and I still pull out my burned cd's to listen to it occasionally. I also didn't have cable a majority of the time growing up. Once I started seeing music videos on MTV, I was turned off to hip hop due to the girls who are half naked and basically ornaments in the videos. I know that there is a difference between "good" and "bad" hip hop. I don't really think that this includes the parental advisory sticker and swearing. I swear all the time. I swear in intellectual conversations. They have just become words that don't mean much anymore. I don't think that swearing makes hip hop bad. I think marginalizing people such as women and gays is bad hip hop. Unfortunately, this is the conception of many people in their views of hip hop, which is problematic. It is making an entire genre of music that is predominately African American seen as bad. I think the mainstream hip hop needs to get off the air that degrades people and the better hip hop should be more visible.
