I believe race records were sold of less value and considered as less important than hillbilly music or known as "country and western music" even though it was the race record market that let to the first country music recordings. The reason was simple because race records were recordings of performances by black musicians and it was primarily focused produced for black listeners. The second reason was the radio stations were mostly owned by whites so it played a large role in popularizing hillbilly music and seldom a nonexistent role in promoting race music.
All in all, race records deserve much more credit. It consisted of jazz, blues, string bands, and any other objects that can make a sound can lead to a beat and therefore, be played as an instrument. I thought that was neat and pretty creative.
