The following blog post is about Black Face performers and the modern-day offensiveness of their art form. The black face performers put charcoal on their faces to appear black, even though they were white. Today, many people see this as strictly racist. The people it offends the most, obviously, is black people. When they are talking about this, they generalize and say "white people did this" and "white people did that". This brings on a clout of its own offenses.
The fact that white people today are still harassed for things like this is offensive. Yes, I do agree that black face performers are slightly racist, but this has nothing to do with the people today. If you are offended by something, you should not take it out on the people who are 3 generations ahead of the people who did the offensive act. If a white critic (modern day) were to approve of black face performers, he would be almost surely seen as racist by others. But they are performers that are there for entertainment. This reminds me of a song by Minor Threat called "Guilty of Being White". It is a song about how families today are still paying for the slave crimes that their ancestors committed, and I believe this is wrong. One lyric in the song that summarizes it is "You blame me, for slavery, a hundred years before I was born!" Why should someone be harassed and punished for something they did not do? The answer is easy; they shouldn't.
