Race Music
Monday in class we discussed race music, some of the classmateds said that they feel like this word today would be offensive because of categorizing the music. I feel differently about that. why would it be offensive when we have things like BET. When you think about music its still race music we just dont put the word race in front of it any more we jsut put the words country, rap and R&B, punk, rock etc. When ever you here theese words you are categorizing. When we listen to rap people tend tho think more black music and then you say punk and we think black hair, lip pierced. Iv liked in buffalo for only a short time and im originally from Mississippi but when people are around me and were listening to music i listen to more metal and they always say shouldnt you be listening to country and when i do i get called a hillbilly. When people think hillbilly they tend to think dirty, missing tooth etc.and i really dont see how i fit that description at all. jsut bec ause im from the country doesnt mean im a hillbilly. So does that mean if i hear someone from the city listening to country i can call them a hillbilly? Point is i feel liekthe term race music still is here, there is other ways to say it. i honestly dont see how this word can be offensive and i feel like its just peoples way of getting attention when it comes to issues like that. But in the end music is music and one race might tend to enjoy it better because that might be what they were brought up in. Yes people today listen to many different types of music but in some way i feel like it is still for one category or race.
