How The Disabled Are Perceived By Society
The question "How are the Disabled Treated and/or Perceived By Society" was asked in class on yesterday (Feb 3). This question was one that stuck with me. In my opinion the disabled are always treated differently and looked at like they arent human. I must admit when I was younger and when I would find out someone had a disability or a handicap I would treat them with sympathy. As I grew older I started to realize that just because a person has a disabilty or a handicap it does not make them any different. If you cut them they will bleed the same red, if you hurt them they will feel the same pain. They are still people and they are people who should be treated as equal. It sometimes seems as if society views the disabled as being helpless but some of the disabled have done things that some of us in our life will never be able to accomplish (ex. stevie wonder and ray charles). Sometimes we have to stop and realize that we are all humans.
