The Grammy's
Embarassingly enough, I only made it to 8:45 Sunday night while watching the Grammy's (I blame it on the vertigo) so I missed a lot of great stuff. But I was able to see the performance of "American Idiot" and also learned it is becoming a musical-who would have thought! For those of you that caught this performance-I'm curious as to what you think. I had mixed reactions. The women singing, although they were clearly talented singers, appeared to be trained as Broadway singers-very different from the repertoire of Green Day. I'd love to here your opinions. Until tomorrow!

As a very dedicated and very long-time Green Day fan, I'm not really suprised by their performance at the Grammy's. As they re-boosted their career in 2004 with the American Idiot album (after a 4 year respite), the band showed an increasing inclination to adopt other musical styles and more instrumental variety into their work. They've had an unbelievable journey from the California punk scene in the early 90's to playing for 130,000 people in two days in the U.K. during the American Idiot tour. Although I personally loved American Idiot (the album), and absolutely do not like 21st Century Breakdown, I maintain great respect and admiration for the band and their ability to expand their writing musically (not lyrically it seems). If I ever get the chance to see the American Idiot musical, you can bet I'll be there.
