Glee

I am a huge fan of Glee. Honestly, before reading the article from the magazine in class today, I didn't think the Wheels episode could be seen as offensive. However, I do see the writer's point. I've watched the entire first season of the show and only during that episode was Artie's disability mentioned in that much detail. Also, they devote an entire episode ("Throwdown") to minorities but then rarely acknowledge the wide range of backgrounds that the Glee members are part of again. On the contrary, Glee does bring up several important topics, including sexuality, religion, and disability. I think that the writer of the article failed to mention two important aspects of Glee. One is that "Wheels" brought up important issues facing some people with disabilities today, such as the lack of wheelchair accessibility. I think this is important because it may allow the audience to think about their own community and whether or not certain places are accessible to people with disabilities. Another aspect that the author didn't mention was the whole message that Glee brings to its audience. Yes, it may sound cliche, but the whole point of Glee is that the characters are very different people with different backgrounds who are connected through their love of music. The writer failed to mention that positive message.
