The Devil and Blues

I think the idea that the devil represented more than just some type of physical entity fits more with blues music. I can't say anything about that particular song but I see the references to devil more towards sin and more specifically the all to common problem of substance abuse in not just blues but the music industry.

Although looking at some of my blues music, specifically blues rock (Black Keys, White Stripes, BRMC) that most references towards the devil is toward a fictional character. Maybe the idea of the devil as a metaphor for other problems has become cliche. Jack White from the White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather had the most references to the devil. Although in general the idea of the devil/satan is still strong in even blues rock (opposed to standard blues) as every artist I can think of had at least a song referencing him/it.
