Music Videos

I've never been much of a fan of music videos. Even when I was younger, I would only really turn on MTV or VH1 because I wanted to listen to some music, not because I wanted to watch the videos themselves. While I do (sometimes) enjoy when musicians mix visual arts into their live shows, I'm not overly interested in watching the same three minute video more than once or twice. If one of my favorite bands happens to put out a new music video, I might watch it once or twice (online, now) but after that I don't bother with it again.

With that said, I still think it's a shame what MTV has turned into. MTV had a major impact on the music industry in the '80s, and now it has become a complete joke. I don't watch much TV, or even listen to much mainstream pop music anymore, but I still would rather have the option to watch any music video over the nonsense "reality" shows that are on MTV 18 hours a day. I kind of wonder how the artists who's careers were launched by MTV feel about its current incarnation.
