Hip Hop and the Consumer

In my eyes, current hip-hop artists cater to making the greatest hit single and not trying to make a complete album. The artist may make an album, but with only one or two songs that are alright on the album. I like artists who create an album that has a message throughout the whole album. Each song has a point to where it is placed on the album. A lot of the current mainstream hip-hop artists also only show up once on the charts for a couple weeks until the next hit by the next hip-hop artist not many people have heard of show up. I think the artists just make the one hit single, put it on an album so the consumer will buy the album, and then not enjoy the rest of the album. In today's music world though, it is extremely easy to purchase singles, so people may buy more of the hip-hop singles for $1 and not have to shell out the $15 for the whole album.

  1. Oh yea, Katie, I was listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers on the way down to Boston, you could put some of their stuff from the album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" like "Under the Bridge," or "Give it Away."
