Guest Lecture
I really enjoyed our guest lecture by Edreys on Monday. It was refreshing to hear about hip hop from an actual artist. Also, it was interesting that he doesn't swear in his music because most of the hip hop that I hear on the radio has tons of swearing, which I think makes other people disregard hip hop as a legitimate music genre. It was clear that he enjoys what he does and it was inspiring that he followed his dreams and did what he wanted to do, regardless of fame or money. I found it interesting that he saw hip hop, or music in general, as a time capsule and all future generations will look at that time capsule for information about what was going on at that time. I was thinking about music today and what music will future generations look back on to understand this time? Edreys didn't seem to think that there will be good music for them to look back on, but I don't think this is completely true. There are some really good musicians today with powerful messages in their lyrics, some of them being hip hop artists.
