"Glee" (post2)

As I was watching the Glee clip I was disappointed. I have never watched the show, but friends of mine rave about the talent of the actors, which was evident in the clip. I felt that this episode did what every other major tv show does; and that is to put on an episode about a problem just so that they can say that it was addressed. The performance was a cheap and cheesy way to cast a light on the stigmatization of disability. It lacked a sense of actual concern and understanding of the feelings of disabled people.
My mother is disabled. She has scoliosis which means that her spine is curved. Whenever my mother needs to leave the house she has to take her wheelchair. However, I have never seen my mom as helpless. I admit that there are times when she needs a little more help, such as mopping the floor or cooking an extravagant meal. However, there are plenty of "able bodied" people that need help with all types of things but they are not seen as incapable. Maybe some people think that its wrong that I don't beckon to my mothers every call and the I don't do everything she asks me to do. Yes some of the time its because I'm being lazy but most of it is because I know that my mom truly doesn't need my help. The only pity that I have for my mom comes from the fact that she has to deal with my younger sister, who talks way to much.
