i think the recent hip pop music does have a negative effect on young people just because hip pop artists seem very shallow and superficial. Looking at their music videos and the lifestyles these artists claim to lead, its pretty clear they are proud of being materialistic and sexist. I don't think they have much respect for woman by the way their bodies are rapped about and presented in the videos. when young people listen to their songs and watch their videos, more or less they will be influenced to be vain.

A lot of rap is like an action movie

Whether the things that rappers rap about comes from personal experience will continue to be a subject up for debate. I dont think it rally matters because most people dont really care. people want to be entertained period. the images that are created through music and movies dont necessarily have to be true stories as long as they are entertaining and done well.

Music at the masters

I don't know if anybody else is a golf fan, but The Masters is something i look forward to watching every year. They do several things there that reminisce tradition. With one of those being their opeing music between commercials. It is always the same piano melody playing that reminds you of the tradition that is behind the course. This year for some reason they changed it to something else, to something that was never played before. I noticed this and realized how much you relate music to events or anything for that matter. The normal piano melody is short at about 10 to 15 seconds, and whenever i hear it i always think of The Masters immediately. So when they changed this very simple melody to something else, i felt indifferent. I never knew how closely you relate things with music.

beastie Boys get a bad rap

I think it was a liitle unfair to group the beastie boys with the likes of eminem and vanilla ice. aside from being white they have little in common with these other artists.the beastie boys are real musicians who play and write their own music. they were a punk band before they broke through with their album "lisence to ill". their album "ill communication" is not only an excellent hip hop album it also includes some innovative funk and punk songs. i dont think it that their musicianship should be over looked which it was in our discussion last friday

Vanilla Ice

Someone said something about Vanilla Ice's song 'Ice Ice Baby,' and how he basically copied the song under pressure. And when asked about it, he said he simply changed a note, so his was different. I saw a video recently where he performed a remixed version of the song under pressure, and he song the rap of Ice Ice Baby, and two other artists song the chorus of under pressure. I don't think he is really too concerned about whether or not he copied the song if he is performing with it, which is maybe why he was able to rap in the first place, because he doesn't care what people think

"Young black Americans coming out of the civil rights movement have used hip hop culture in the 1980s and 1990s to show the limitations of the movement."Hip hop gave young African Americans a voice to let their issues be heard; "Like rock-and-roll, hip hop is vigorously opposed by conservatives because it romanticises violence, law-breaking, and gangs" That is the reflection of hip hop music in American society. That's how it became famous. Now? I think hip hop more in entertainment sector now. When Eminem became famous world wide, the world accepted the fact that hip hop is a type of music, more than a type of life style. That is not for sure, because there are other artists, who did not lose the spirit of hip hop, they still issuing the problems, they still have the concern in their music to give a message. But now, hip hop is remembered by 50cent, Sean Paul, Eminem, Kanye West etc.. Their music is famous, because they are good dance songs. That mentality is certainly serving to Entertainment world, which is nothing like an art.

Hip Hop Class Discussion

After our class discussion on Friday, I also left class feeling disappointed and the whole class was missing the point about Hip Hop. Also what our class discussion was supposed to be about. I kind of think we got a little off topic and made our discussion into a black and white topic by some of the things that were being said. Anyone is eligible to make rap music and anyone can listen to rap music also anyone is able represent hip hop music. Hip hop music is very good music and represents the African-American culture in a variety of ways. The point I was trying to get across when I raised my hand to speak is that Eminem is one of a kind he is a really good rapper and entertainer. His rap was the best out of many African-Americans that he battled with. In a predominately black industry Eminem was better than those other rappers he battled. For example Golf is a predominately white sport and Tiger Woods who is known to be African-American dominates the sport and gets all of the headlines. The point I am trying to make is if you work hard at something and have talent to go along with anyone no matter what the color of their skin is one can be successful at the goal they want to accomplish. Hopefully no one is holding any grudges against Hip hop music nor towards any of the classmates maybe our next discussion will be just as intense as this one and we have more time to express ourselves.
